Bridal showers have gone from gentile prescribed traditions to anything goes merrymaking in the last couple of decades. But what if you like tradition? More to the point what if the mother and mother-in-law like tradition? Now is not the time to alienate the older generation. It is their party, too. So how about an old-fashioned pretty-dress, dainty-cake, linen-cloth bridal shower tea party? The moms would almost certainly love to help plan it, and when friends join in you have a cross-generational project. Since you already have your theme (tea) you can get your bridal shower tea party invitations out as soon as you know when and where the event is being held (teas take place in the afternoon). About three weeks in advance is recommended, more if there are any guests will have to travel a long distance to get there. If you know what color and style of teapot and cups you will be using, you might look for invitations with images that feature that style, or have them specially made. And there are also choices as to tone: formal (flowers, decorative pot and cup, tablecloth), romantic (soft focus pastels), whimsical (precariously stacked cups), or whatever you decide on. Your border and font will reflect this choice, as well. If you are printing the invitations yourself, be sure to use good quality card stock. Regular paper looks cheap. Envelopes with a matching design will catch the eye and make sure the card doesn’t get lost among the bills and ads. |
