“She’s lovely. She’s engaged.” That saying was featured many years ago in a TV commercial. The implication is that the state of being engaged is unique and worthy of celebration. And since the saying is quite old, it also indicates that the celebration is by, for, and about the woman. The man is just some poor shlub who doesn’t know what hit him.
Fast forward to the present: The engagement party honors the man and the woman, as well as their decision to marry. Friends and family gather and congratulations are in order.
Just as the way the party is done has changed, so have the engagement party invitations. A picture of a ring with ribbon, banners and the “French Script” font are still appropriate, if those involved prefer it. But hors d’oeuvres and champagne, beach towels, or a simple pattern suit just as well.
But if you want a truly special occasion, there are ways to customize engagement party invitations. What is outstanding or unusual about the couple? Did they meet while skydiving? Are they crazy about classic rock? Are they both horse trainers? Will the party feature Mexican or Italian cuisine? There are visuals to fit any of those. And a photo of the happy couple framed in bubbles, musical notes, hearts or any other fitting image will please the crowd nicely.
“She’s lovely. She’s engaged.” Your invitations need to say more: “Enjoy!” “Celebrate!” “We’re happy for you!” Let your guests know that they’re in for a good time.
